... there is something crass and petty here, whale oil production is a primal activity, linked to die hard business interests.

We have extraordinary new technologies, renewable energies, rovers on Mars, satellite telescopes, a whole new world of technology that is magnificent!

Yet we still have the crudity of whale hunting, and Developed World islanders off Northern Europe engaging in some primal rite of manhood passage involving the killing of whales ... for the sake of obsolete tradition!

We have the die-hard anti Greens, pseudo free marketeers, demanding laissez faire capitalism  and the poisoning of the environment as if they own the air and the sea and every other instance of 'public space'.

But they are en route to becoming extinct, 'tooth and claw' business interests that History will one day condemn. Indeed, their infamy will be immortal ...
