It surely cannot be denied that there is a general Euro Zone put down globally, as if the Euro Zone is a crippled economic area, with very little hope of recovery and with very little to offer the world. It will comes as a surprise to many however, that the GDP of the Euro Zone is higher than that of the US, and twice that of China, with less than half the population of China. It is approximately eight times larger than India or Russia or Brazil. Furthermore, it provides more than half of the world’s aid (about 60% according to the representatives who accepted the Nobel Peace Prize). It is Greener than any other equivalent part of the globe, and the closest of adherents to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Ironically, many of its critics are appalling examples of human right abuses. Between South Africa and the Euro Zone, is an all time historical high in conflict resolution. The on going conflicts around the world, some decades long with no end in sight, are testimony to the inadequacy of many of these areas to resolve conflict, regardless of creed or culture. Few would dispute the greatness of Mandela and South Africa in setting an example for conflict resolution and advancing the cause of human rights. But credit should also be given elsewhere where it is due – the European Union.
